Trent National Squad Press Release

Hardwicke makes National squad

Trent Hardwicke is off this week to Victoria for an intensive 6 day Polocrosse Boot Camp with the Australian Junior Polocrosse Squad. The squad is comprised of 28 players, with the majority from NSW and Queensland. The 14 year old from Railton was selected out of over 120 nominations from across Australia and is the only Tasmanian to make the squad. The top junior players will be selected from the squad, to represent Australia in the Junior Test Series between Australia and South Africa in April 2009.

Rodney Gee Tasmanian Polocrosse President said “As you can imagine we are all incredibly proud of Trent, he was selected after his great performance for the Tasmanian junior team in the Tri-state series in Albury NSW last year and his solid A grade performance for the Kentish Club in Tasmania.

“The Kentish A grade team were victorious on the weekend at their home carnival defeating Central Coast by four goals. This was Trent’s last carnival before jumping on the plane to Boot Camp.

“Polocrosse talent is definitely in the Hardwicke family with the Kentish A grade team including Trent, his father Larry Hardwicke and older sister Danza Hardwicke.

The next Tasmanian Club carnival is on Saturday the 24th of January at Smithton, play commences at 9am with spectators welcome. Any person interested in Polocrosse should contact Richard on 0418 142 518 or Rodney Gee 0428 530 082.

2009 Season gets the thumbs up from Chief Umpire

The 2009 Tasmanian Polocrosse season commenced on Saturday the 3rd at North Motton. Hosted by the Central Coast Polocrosse club, 8 teams representing four clubs from around the State got a taste of the standard of the 2009 season.  Chief Umpire Richard Murrell was pleased with the quality of the play “This year we have a large number of new players, players returning to the sport and players stepping up a grade.

“I was really happy with the quality of the play, it really shows the hard work that players and clubs devote to their skills and horses in the off season.

“Some of the stand out performances were from players making the jump into the tough A grade competition such as Carmen Bellinger (Ulverstone), Rodney Gee (Exeter), Simon Collins (Ulverstone), Tammy Collins (Ulverstone), and Danza Hardwicke (Railton).  It is also pleasing to see so many new players trying the sport for the first time.”

Northern Polocrosse Club won the A grade and C grade finals, narrowly defeating Central Coast teams in both grades. The B grade final was won by Smithton, with many exceptional players returning to polocrosse for the 09 season.

The next carnival is on Saturday the 10th of January at Gowrie Park, play commences at 9am with spectators welcome. Any person interested in Polocrosse should contact Rodney Gee on 0428 530 082 or Richard 0418 142 518
